Vreme Past Continuous (ili Past Progressive) je prošlo vreme u engleskom jeziku. Za razliku od običnog prošlog vremena, ovo vreme se koristi za radnju koja je trajala u prošlosti.

Kako se gradi Past Continuous?

potvrdan oblik: Subjekat + TO BE (was / were) + infinitiv + -ing

We were sleeping.

upitan oblik: TO BE (was / were) + Subjekat + infinitiv + -ing

Were we sleeping?

odričan oblik: Subjekat + TO BE (was / were) + not + infinitiv + -ing

We were not sleeping.

Kada se koristi Past Continuous?

- za prošlu radnju koja je trajala u prošlosti

I had a good time while I was living in Paris.

When I woke up this morning, the sun was shining.

- za dve radnje koje su se istovremeno dešavale u prošlosti

He was reading newspapers while she was preparing breakfast.

- za prošlu radnju koja je trajala u prošlosti i bila prekinuta nekom drugom prošlom radnjom
(ta druga prošla radnja obično se izražava vremenom Past Simple)
